Scientology: Medical and Healing Aspects

May 31, 2013

Several years ago well known Scientologoist Tom Cruise caused quite a stir, a public outrage really, when he publicly slammed fellow actor Brooke Shields. Shileds was using a prescribed anti-depressant to help curb the symptoms of her post=partum depression. In an interview, Cruise said that women should take vitamins instead of prescription drugs to help with such things. “These drugs are dangerous. I have actually helped people come off.

“When you talk about postpartum, you can take people today, women, and what you do is you use vitamins. There is a hormonal thing that is going on, scientifically, you can prove that. But when you talk about emotional, chemical imbalances in people, there is no science behind that.

Tom Cruise is not the singular, all knowing spokesman for Scientology by any means. But his views are a reflection of the churchs’s, and more secifically the founder of the church’s views on Mental Helath and Psychiatry.

The official stance on medical treatments are as follows:

“Scientologists do use prescribed medical drugs when physically ill and also rely on the advice and treatment of medical doctors. Scientologists do not take street drugs or mind-altering psychotropic drugs.

Mr. Hubbard developed an entire body of technology to enable individuals to recover from the harmful mental and spiritual effects of drugs, including the Purification Rundown. His discoveries in this field are also widely used in the secular world, particularly in the international network of Narconon drug rehabilitation centers.” (http://www.scientology.org)

L. Ron Hubbard had a venoomous attitude toward modern Psychology.
